Mark Forbes has a unique and successful track record as a journalist, communicator, manager and leader.

As Editor in Chief of The Age he led more than 200 editorial employees, with ultimate editorial, legal, strategic and management responsibility across all platforms. Mark is highly regarded for making sound decisions, managing complex and disrupted environments and navigating risks to corporate integrity, brand and image. 

He holds a Masters in Strategic Affairs from the Australian National University and is a Leadership Victoria graduate. Experienced across all media platforms, Mark has also worked with Channel Seven and the ABC’s Four Corners.

Mark edited The Sunday Age when it was named the Asia-Pacific’s Sunday newspaper of the year in 2012. Mark has won several Quill Awards, a Walkley Award for an expose of Australia’s role in the international steroid trade and the United Nations Media Peace Prize for a ground-breaking journey into Papua.

Mark’s investigation into the international steroid trade saw Australia’s export laws changed and his reporting of the Victorian emergency services dispatch contract resulted in the Intergraph Royal Commission.

Mark is known and respected across media circles, and well versed in government processes. He knows legal and commercial risks, but also the importance of influencing public opinion.

He has widespread experience of working collaboratively within and across teams, bringing together all elements of businesses to achieve positive outcomes.
